The Tiny Tutus Annual Daddy Daughter Dance

Every year, Tiny Tutus invites Daddies from across the country to participate in recital with their little ballerina with our beautiful Daddy Daughter Dance.  Sharing the moments together learning the simple routine to perform in recital with your little girl is a truly unique experience to be treasured.

The Tiny Tutus Daddy Daughter Dance is such a unique and precious experience. Each year Daddies who have danced with us have loved the magic of sharing this special time with their daughters in a way they never have before.

Spending time together at rehearsals and working through the simple choreography is honestly beautiful. The memories you’ll share of your ‘in class’ moments will be as significant as performing the actual dance on stage at recital. The Tiny Tutus Daddy Daughter Dance is about you and your little ballerina. It’s about a Daddy and his little girl sharing a unique, important and very precious moment.

* At Tiny Tutus, we recognise love makes a family. Granddads, Uncles, Big Brothers, Cousins, Friends or Guardians are invited to perform if a ballerina’s father is absent or otherwise unable to perform.

Invitation To Dance

The Daddy Daughter Dance Invitation is extended to all Tiny Tutus families who are Members and participating in recital whose ballerina is aged at least 2 years and 6 months of age by the 30th June this year.

Please be aware that while the invitation is to everyone, each recital will feature only one Daddy Daughter Dance so places within each dance are limited*.

* Limited places ensures everyone can comfortably and safely dance on stage without over-crowding. Our Recitals average between 50-60 families. Each Recital will have one Daddy Daughter Dance with between 6-12 participants. The numbers of daddies and daughters we can accommodate will vary depending on the venue and stage dimensions.

The Commitment

The Daddy Daughter Dance is terrific fun but it also involves lifting* your ballerina several times during the song, kneeling on the ground, memorising the simple choreography and committing to attending studio rehearsals.

* If you have back, knee or hip problems or any other
physical conditions (including recent surgery) that prohibit you from lifting your ballerina or kneeling down
in rehearsal or recital, please check with your doctor prior to registering. Once you register for Daddy Daughter Dance it is assumed that you are fit and able to participate.  If restricted movementis noticed in class by your teacher, you may be required to provide a medical clearance form. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Rehearsals

You will perform your Daddy Daughter Dance with other dads from your ballerina’s recital. This group of dads and ballerinas will become your team. And just like any team effort you must commit to attending all allocated practice sessions.  Please consider the rehearsal dates provided before enrolling in the DDD program so that you don’t let your recital team down on the day.  Please note. All rehearsals are closed rehearsals – this means Dads* and ballerinas only.

You will be required to attend all 4 rehearsals:

1. At home zoom session ( to learn the routine before class)
2. Face to Face class with your Recital Team
3. Face to face Class with your Recital Team
4. Stage Rehearsal with your Recital Team

Attendance

We do understand that life is very busy so the requirement is ONE Online Rehearsal plus  TWO face to face rehearsals. Attendance at the Stage Dress Rehearsal is an absolute must and cannot be missed under any circumstances as this is where stage placements occur. Unfortunately, we are unable to alter the rehearsal schedule to accommodate individual travel plans, illness, holidays etc.

* We try not to change the rehearsal schedule, but this is “showbiz” and circumstances beyond our control sometimes cause schedule changes. If the schedule is adjusted we will endeavour to provide at least 24 hours notice. We will communicate with Daddy/Daughter participants via email. If you do not have email or if you never check your email, please prepare now for email communication.

What to Wear

To Rehearsal: Wear anything that is comfortable that you can move in! Wear joggers and comfortable clothes that you feel good in.

At Recital: To participate our Daddies are required to wear a dark suit, white shirt, light coloured tie matching their ballerina’s tutu and dark / black shoes.

Please note: there will be no change facilities available at the recital venues so we recommend you arrive looking fabulous in your suit ready to dance! Our ballerinas will wear their special recital costume so the dance looks magical.

No Peeking

Tiny Tutus embraces an ‘Open Door’ policy which opens classes to everyone to share with their ballerina. But this is a very special and unique class just for Daddies to share with their ballerinas.

As such all Daddy Daughter Dance rehearsals are “Closed Rehearsals”, meaning Mums, friends and family may not watch the Daddy Daughter rehearsals. The magic of seeing them together on stage at recital is such a fabulous moment and worth the suspense!

FAQ

Does it have to be a Dad?

No. Grandfathers, Uncles, Older brothers, or a family friend can substitute!

What if Dad can't make it to all the class practices?

It is absolutely encouraged to attend all four class rehearsals. Please block the rehearsal dates out in your diary. If you have questions please contact the office for a chat.

It’s important to practice at home (either with or without your ballerina).

What if my child doesn’t seem to want to do the dance even in practice classes?

A child’s response in class and on stage can be very different. The Daddy Daughter dance is an experience that will last a lifetime and spending time at rehearsal and working through tricky situations with your daughter is as significant as performing the actual dance. Talk to your class teacher or our Daddy Daughtev Dance Co-ordinator if you have questeions or concerns.

How does it work with Dads backstage?

Dads sit in the audience and watch the recital as usual. The Daddy Daughter Dance is usually the second last song. We will ask for the Dads* to come back stage during the performance. Dads* will all meet at the stage doors right before the performance and we will bring their daughters to them. Don’t worry – we walk through everything at stage rehearsal before recital. This is why attendance at stage rehearsal is compulsory.

Will Dad’s still be able to watch the show?

YES! We know this is what you are here for! The Daddy Daughter Dance is one of the last items, so dads can re-join their families in the audience for the finale.
